The Happening and Wild Weather (spoiler)

I went out yesterday on my little vacation in Vermont and saw a new movie by M. Night Shyamalan.

SPOILER ALERT

The Happening

This movie starts off at Central Park when a mysterious plauge of Suicidal Behavior spreads throughout the park and puts the Northeast on Terror watch. This event takes place at 8:33 in the morning. This was interesting to me because it is just 13 minutes from when the first plane hit the World Trade Center on 9/11. Beleiving this was a biological terror attack focused on the neurotoxins that regulate pro survival instincts and that regulate suicidal and anti survival instincts. This event forces the main character Mark Wahlberg to take his friend John Leguazamos daughter as people flee the city. Mark Wahlberg is a teacher whos day is interrupted by the event and his class was a science classed focusing on the dissapearance of bees and how Einstein said we would have only 4 years to live once that occurred. This movie takes place in 2008 + 4= 2012. They are basically running around through the whole film trying to save this young girl. It turns out a scientist suspects that it wasnt a terrorist attack but that Mother Nature had been sensing there are too many humans too clustered together and were begining to threaten the survival instincts of the natural organism. Soon after they make their way to a womans off the grid house where she soon dies of the toxin. This leaves them on her property as the "attack" passes. The film ends at 9:59 on a Tuesday morning which is also exactly when the South Tower of WTC disintegrated. The news comes on saying the attack has passed. A scientist beleives Nature is fighting back against the human organism that is threatening it by releasing biochemicals where humans are most highly congregated. The scientist then says that this seems to be a smaller microcosm of a looming macroscopic depopulation of the human race by the green earth itself. So basically it is saying that civilization or civilized cities with high population are a threat to nature and are not in equillibrium.

At the end of the movie the saved young girl enters a bus marked 2010 with a smiley face that looks oddly like a Q but with an accent above it as well as bus being yellow. The bus is Marked 2010 and is marked by an electronic spedometer as going 17 MPH as it leaves. Q being the 17th letter in the alphabet and the smiley face being a sun symbol as well. 17 is an Important Solar Number as it marks Fathers Day in the European tradition or the resurrection of the sun in Egypt the 17th day of the 3rd month was a festival for the ressurrection of Osiris. Osiris was a god of the sun, vegetation and the underworld. 3/17 is a popular solar ressurection father holiday. Could the saved young girl be the whomb of the coming sun in 2010? I dont know but it seems odd to me. 2010 I beleive is marked by Prophets like Edgar Cayce and Nostrodamus as a time of Natural Disasters and great change.
This film seems to be focusing peoples consciousness on the fact that we are not "supposed" to be here and operating in this way. It focuses awareness on natures ability to overwhelm and control us and makes the subjective security of city life more clear. It gets the mind wondering about people before us and how they lived and how unnatural and unbalanced city life could be. It also could be programming us for a soon coming event natural or whathaveyou.
I think Shyamalan has been initiating us into a world of "supernatural" possibilities with all of his films and he definatly tries to peirce the material nature of things and psychologically bring the viewers into a state of mind where they are confronted with the subjectivity of reality and symbolism.

Funny as i decided to write this article i stumbled across this article.

Is the City an "Organism" Operating Beyond the Bounds of Biology?

Note this is a Picture of Central Park, First focus in The Happening.

"For the first time in history, the majority of the people on our planet live in cities. Going forward, human history will become urban history: homo sapiens has evolved into homo urbanus."
"In this crucial sense cities are completely different from biological organisms, which slow down with size; their relative metabolism, growth rates, heart rates, and even rates of innovation - their evolutionary rates - systematically - and predictably - decrease with organizmal size," West said. "Several thousand years ago the evolution of social organizations in the form of cities brought a new dynamic to the planet that seems to be uniquely human: People actually do walk on average faster in larger cities whereas heart rates decrease as animal size increases."
Economist writer-at-large, Johnny Grimond's observations underscore the findings of the Santa Fe Institute's West, writing that with the city mankind has created an "organism" operating beyond the bounds of biology."

Funny aint it.
